The 2001 Merlot (a 6,354-case blend of 94.3% Merlot and 5.7% Cabernet Franc) exhibits fragrant aromas and flavors of espresso roast, coffee beans, smoke, chocolate, and loads of berry fruit. Dense plum/ruby in color with a hedonistic personality, this is a heady, full-bodied wine to drink over the next 7-8 years. This is a top-flight single-vineyard wine aged completely in French oak, which is in total contrast to the wines made at Silver Oak.
