With time, notes of pepper, brown stems, and briquette-crusted grilled meat emerge. Distinct nuances of licorice twig, star anise, tobacco, tarry herbs, and purple flower add further complexity. Almost stubborn at first, the palate is unapologetic in its firm stem tannin and ageability. This vintage channels more Northern Rhône character than any other we’ve produced. With time and air, the vineyard’s true class shines through, showcasing flavors of fresh blackberries, air-cured black olives, and blood orange carried by structured opulence. The finish is youthful now but will lengthen and gain complexity with bottle age.
