Raats Family Jasper Red Blend SOMLYAY - 2023 (750ml)
Jasper is a tribute to Bruwer’s late father, Jasper, who was one of Raats’ founders and the viticulturist for nine years. This complex Cabernet Franc-driven Bordeaux blend shows blackberry and black cherry on the nose, along with the perfume and violets one would expect from a 49% Cabernet Franc wine. The palate offers luscious brambly berry fruit intertwined with hints of tobacco, anise and dark chocolate. Silky tannins caress the palate, and a lovely minerality shines through on the long, supple finish.
The 2023 Red Blend Jasper has a slightly different blend, with more Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot instead of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This has a fragrant bouquet with red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and a dash of white pepper. The palate is well balanced, a little fleshier compared to previous vintages due to the Merlot, with subtle spice box and white pepper notes and gentle grip on the finish.
